Play Meter Shuts Down after 44 Years

Carol P. Lally, the publisher of Play Meter, has announced her retirement and the close of the monthly periodical. Play Meter has been a staple in the North American amusement industry publications for the last 44 years. It was the first dedicated to the amusement games industry and the first to start an industry trade show geared towards operators, the Amusement Operators Expo (AOE).

Carol’s late husband, Ralph Lally, created the magazine in the mid-1970s and continued to produce and grow for decades. They even continued to publish through the massive destruction that Hurricane Katrina brought to their New Orleans home in 2005.

Lally said, “I wish to thank my dedicated staff, long-time readers, and industry members I have worked with over the years. This industry is one in which long-lasting relationships are formed, and stepping away was a difficult decision. I am looking forward to having the freedom to spend more time with my family and doing things I have wanted to do for a long time.”

The last issue ran through June of 2018. Negotiations are continuing for what the future looks like for a new Play Meter.
